Lighting the Fire: Bringing DSMES to Life with CGM

Presented by the 2020 Diabetes Educators of the Year

Dexcom Product Theatre at ADCES20
Thursday, August 13 from 2:45– 3:30 PM CDT

Are your educational classes overflowing with participants? Are people begging for more engagement with your team because they are learning so much about themselves and “their own” diabetes? If this has not always been your experience, join us for an engaging panel discussion by both the ADA and ADCES Diabetes Educators of the Year for 2020! We’re hosting a product theater on Thursday August 13, 2020 at 2:45 pm CT entitled Lighting the Fire: Bringing DSMES to Life with CGM with Dr. William H. Polonsky, PhD, CDCES, American Diabetes Association 2020 Outstanding Educator in Diabetes and Dr. Diana Isaacs PharmD, BCPS, BC-ADM, CDCES, Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists 2020 Educator of the Year. During this presentation, we’ll first explore the key principle that “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” ~ William Butler Yeats. We’ll challenge you to evaluate the current DSMES classes you provide now and how you might evolve to really create engaging educational opportunities. We’ll discuss how continuous glucose monitoring creates a unique opportunity to individualize and tailor diabetes education and make it meaningful for the person with diabetes. You’ll learn about a practical approach to using CGM data in your practice to transform DSMES into personalized self-learning experiments to create that “Aha moment.” We’ll also share a CGM tip sheet to help people with diabetes use CGM successfully to increase time-in-range and overall diabetes wellness.
